The Wheeler Atlas is a free interactive map of world history. Move the timeline from 2 million BCE to today and the borders redraw. Map modes show era borders, religion, culture, development, climate, terrain and elevation. About 75 wonders, from Göbekli Tepe to the Burj Khalifa, appear on the map of the era when they were completed. Overlays can add trade routes, roads and railways, natural disasters, place names, modern capitals, a latitude and longitude grid, and today’s borders for comparison.

Every view has a link that opens on the same year and place. Save a view as a 1080p or 4K image, or use cinematic mode so the map can be recorded or projected. It runs in the browser. No account is needed. More is on the About page, the credits and licences, and the corrections log.
